What I think We Can Learn From The Astroworld Tragedy
So, I wrote something a little while ago about the WWWY festival, and why I had a lot of suspicion surrounding it.
I bring it up because the organizers, Live Nation, also organized Astroworld. And that's the focus of this piece. What can we learn from it, besides the fact that people are terrible?
1. Please, please don't rush into any venue and overwhelm security. Even if it doesn't lead to the tragic deaths of 10 people, it's just rude and unpleasant for all involved.
I get it: this is your favorite artist, and you have a chance of seeing them live. You're excited, I get that. But that gives you no right to barge the gates, *without a ticket*, just to see them. You overwhelm the people around you, and make yourself look like an idiot.
2. Venues/Live Nation, whoever was responsible for hiring: hire enough people for any given festival. Hire more, even, to help with the possible overflow of crowds. This might cost you more in the short term, but think of it as lawsuit insurance. And no big cirporation wants to have to pay for its wrong-doings, am I right?
3. Artists TAKE CARE OF THE HUMAN BEINGS IN THE PIT!!!!!!
I know there were a lot of people, but performers have stopped shows of similar sizes to help one fan. And Travis, I mean they stopped everything and only resumed once it was clear the fan was safe.
It was horrible to see you not care, smiling as people were desperately trying to get the attention of the adults, and screaming for help. And your measly apology only made you look worse.
In recap:
1. Be respectful for the people around you
2. If you are hiring, hire a lot
3. Artists, please give a damn
